Scott Alpen directs National Training programs for RCMP in Chilliwack

Scott just completed directing two weeks of shooting for eight training scenarios for the RCMP to be used across Canada.  Using professional actors and RCMP officers, they shot both English and French versions of the scenarios which covered such diverse topics as car theft, apprehension of convenience store robbers, child protection and bar fights. They shot both day and night scenarios, utilizing various locations around Chilliwack and Cultus lake.  Chilliwack is an excellent place to shoot as its locale can pass for any urban or rural area of Canada. The crew and actors were excellent, our technical crew were from the RCMP training and media division based at Chilliwack.  Our actors […]

Schneider Electric contacts AYLI for corporate shoot

Recently we got a call from Schneider Electric in Rhode Island, N.E., to film their Victoria manufacturing plant. At the client’s request, we shot interviews and b-roll at the plant; using our Canon 7D and set of prime lenses to match their international corporate look and branding. Schneider is an international company with their main offices in Paris, France.  Here is what our client said about her experience: “I’m a video producer based in the United States and was traveling to the Vancouver area for a shoot.  After searching for a local crew, I stumbled upon As You Like It Media and decided to take my chances with a crew I’d never used […]

Victoria Maxwell

Victoria Maxwell, a talented mental health educator, consultant, actor and writer, has asked us to produce  a second DVD, and we are thrilled at the prospect! Our first DVD project with Victoria was to film her one woman play “Crazy for Life”. This critically acclaimed one-woman show about living with a psychiatric disorder, tours internationally to sold-out audiences and rave reviews. The newest project is a multi-camera recording of the one woman play “That’s Just Crazy Talk,” filmed live in Vancouver last October (2011). Written by Maxwell, it is the product of a research study and the culmination of several years of preparation by Drs. Erin Michalak and Sagar V. […]

Grieg Seafood BC

Last fall we were contacted by Dave Mergle, Director of Marketing for Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., to produce a web piece for the company’s website and brand “Skuna Bay Craft Raised Salmon”. The project was an interesting one and took us out to the wilderness of Nootka Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island. We were spared rain as we traveled from one salmon farm to another in small runabouts. and we found it fascinating to meet the people who work there year round. They are truely unique individuals and eye opening to meet. Check out our final piece on Grieg’s website: www.skunasalmon.com.

The St. John Ambulance National Training Program

For the second time in five years, we  have produced videos for St. John Ambulance’s National Training Program. A total of 54 video programs in both English and French made up the huge project and we are very happy to have worked with such a great team! We wrote, shot and post produced the entire series for some 7,500 copies of the 2 DVD set; having equal production value to that of a full-feature film! The logistics of filming onset in both languages with both amateur and professional talent were challenging but extremely gratifying in the end. The client loved the finished product and so did we.

St. John Ambulance – Haiti

In the fall of 2010 we were hired by St. John Ambulance National  in affiliation with the Department of Foreign Affairs, to translate St.John’s current first aid training videos into Creole for a program based in Haiti. Our role was to take the training videos we had previously produced in French and English (2006) and began the process of translating the videos into the lively language of Creole. The challenge was finding native Creole speakers in Vancouver, but we soon tapped into a great community of people! After many audio recording sessions and post-production, our DVD is now being used to train police officers in Haiti, who, in turn, teach […]

Britannia Museum- Chinese Bunkhouse exhibit video

Last October, the Britannia Museum contacted us to produce a video for their new Chinese Bunkhouse exhibit in Steveston B.C. We eagerly dove into the research; amassing huge amounts of material from internet libraries about Chinese immigrants who came to Vancouver to work in the salmon canning industry. Approaching the project from a more personal perspective, we gravitated towards the story of a single man who left his family behind to work in Canada in the late 1800′s. Featuring actor Milton Lim, the program was well-received, exceeding the client’s expectations and is now permanently installed in the museum’s “Chinese Bunkhouse” exhibit. The main feature was paired with another video in […]

UK WRG Creative corporate shoot

This past November, we had the pleasure of interviewing Chris Jupe, a UK producer with WRG Creative. After a great shoot with cover shots taken around the city, we showed him the best of Vancouver, ending on Grouse Mountain for a fabulous view of the town. We had a great time and discovered that he is married to Coronation Street star Katie Cavanagh! My mom’s a real fan and Chris had Katie send her an autographed picture later in the month!
